EN 13445-6 status as harmonised is important for the application for pressure equipment design in accordance with PED.
EN 13445-6 is a harmonised standard in acc. to the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and contains specified requirements for pressure vessel and pressure vessel components made of ferritic or austenitic spheroidal graphite cast iron.
EN 13445-6 specifies requirements for the design, materials, fabrication and testing of pressure vessels and pressure vessel components made of ferritic or austenitic spheroidal graphite cast iron intended for service with a maximum allowable pressure PS ≤ 100 bar and a maximum wall thickness of 60 mm. The limits for shell wall thickness do not apply to the thickness of flanges, reinforcements, cams and so on.
Acceptable grades do not include ferritic and austenitic cast iron grades with lamellar graphite, which are specifically excluded from this European Standard due to their insufficient elongation and brittle fracture properties, as they require the use of different safety factors and a different approach.
Presumption of conformity
Pressure equipment or assemblies which are in conformity with harmonised standards or parts thereof the references of which have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union shall be presumed to be in conformity with the essential safety requirements covered by those standards or parts thereof, referred to in Annex I of PED.
