EN ISO 15610 specifies how a welding procedure (WPQR) can be qualified by using tested welding consumables. But this application of EN ISO 15610 is limited to parent EN ISO/TR 15608 material groups 1.1 and 8.1 (Material material thicknesses t ≤ 40 mm) and also EN ISO/TR 15608 material groups 21, 22.1 and 22.2 (Material material thicknesses t ≤ 20 mm), which produce acceptable microstructures and properties in the heat-affected zone which do not deteriorate significantly in service.
EN ISO 15610 is not applicable when any of the following is specified for the welded joint:
- hardness;
- impact properties;
- preheating;
- controlled heat input;
- interpass temperature;
- post-weld heat treatment.
Is this WPQR (EN ISO 15610) accepted for pressure vessels design code EN 13445?
EN 13445-4 (steel pressure vessel) and EN 13445-8 (aluminium pressure vessel) does not accepted this WPQR. Also not for welds made directly on pressure vessels, that are not pressure-bearing, such as support rings, supports, saddles.
In accordance with EN 13445-4 (steel) and EN 13445-8 (aluminum), a welding procedure qualification test (WPQR) in accordance with EN ISO 15614-1 or EN 15614-2 is required for pressure vessels. This must be approved for category II, III and IV pressure equipment by a notified body or a recognised organisation third-party testing body.
