The four-digit sequence of numbers after the CE marking is a unique identification number (body ID number) of a European Notified Body that is registered with the EU Commission and was involved in the applied conformity assessment procedure (in the production phase) of the respective product.
The searching the Notified Body is possible on the EU NANDO Website
A Notified Body is not involved in all products (usually with a lower risk potential), i.e. in this case the ID number behind the CE mark is also missing.
PED Requirements
Notified Bodies are involved 12 of 13 Conformity Assessment procedures (not involved for module A). Therefore, the ID number of the notifying body is on most pressure equipments (regardless of the category of the pressure equipment). Only for the conformity assessment procedure Module A (only pressure equipment of category I) no Notified Body is involved and therefore there is no ID number for this pressure equipment.
If two different Notified Bodies are involved for combined conformity assessment procedures, e.g. Module B (design) + Module D, then the ID number of the Notified Body that was involved in the production phase must be specified (i.e. here for Module D).
