ISO/TR 15608 Material Group 22.4

Material Group 22.4 ISO/TR 15608 such as EN AW-5083:
Non heat treatable aluminium-magnesium-alloys with Mg > 3,5 %.

Features of Al-Mg-Alloys such EN AW-5083 alloy

The AW-5083 alloy is highly corrosion-resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals, have highest strengths and are not hardenable (by heat treatment). This alloys are used for apparatus and pipes in the chemical industry, low temperature applications (cryogenic equipment), pressure vessels, roller shutters, roller doors and heat exchangers. The relatively low formability of the alloy limits the complexity of the shapes that can be extruded, although simple hollow shapes are possible.

EN AW-5083 retains exceptional strength after welding. It has the highest strength of the non-heat treatable alloys with an ultimate yield strength Rp20°C = 125 MPa.

Applications of Al-Mg-Alloys such EN AW-5083 alloy

Al-Mg-Alloy EN AW-5083 is suitable for the manufacture of pressure vessels and piping in accordance with EN 1392 “Aluminum and aluminum alloys – Wrought and cast products – Particular requirements for products for the fabrication of pressure equipment” see table below.
