Question

  • If an item of pressure equipment is covered by Article 4 paragraph 3, and there exists an EN product standard for this type of pressure equipment, does this mean that the EN standard explains the meaning of the sound engineering practice?

Answer

Not necessarily.

The manufacturer is always responsible for the application of all relevant procedures and techniques, whether they are given in the standard or not, in order to fulfil the requirement of Article 4 paragraph 3. Standards and other professional codes are useful frame of reference in this context. See also PED Guideline I-01.
